The wrong lecture
Mum, I'm on campus and it's huge! I got lost twice. I found a map, but it was upside down. My first lecture was at nine, in the Science Building. I went to the wrong room.
It was Professor Ali talking about stars and black holes. I'm studying English, not space! But I sat down and listened for an hour. It was amazing. Then I found my seminar. My tutor is called Dr Evans, and she wears purple trainers.
Don't laugh, Mum. I'm not changing my course. Well, maybe a little. But I'm going back to the black holes next week. Is that okay? Love you. Send biscuits.

Dad, you can't stay
Dad, stop carrying that box. I enrolled online last month. I'm a first-year, not a baby. We're in halls, Hall B, room 214. Term starts on Monday.
This is my room. It's small, but the window has a view of the car park and the bins. Oh, hello! I'm Kerem. You're my neighbour? Pablo? Nice to meet you. Dad, this is Pablo. He has a snake. It's in a box. Don't open the box.
Dad, why are you looking at my bed? You're not staying here. No, you can't. Mum is waiting in the car. Yes, I'll eat vegetables. Yes, I'll ring every Sunday. Dad? Dad, let go.

Left-handed money
Selin, did you hear? I got a place at Leeds! I never thought I'd get into a good uni. But the tuition fees are nine thousand pounds a year. Nine thousand! I'll have to take out a student loan.
My cousin says don't worry. You only pay it back when you earn enough. But I also looked for a scholarship. Most of them want top marks. Then I found one for left-handed students. I'm left-handed!
I filled in the form this morning. They asked me to write a sentence with my left hand, to prove it. So I did. It took an hour, and my writing looked like spider legs. But I think I'll get it. Wish me luck!

A forty-year gap year
Mia, come in. Look, I'm learning Spanish! On Mondays I go to an evening class at the community centre, and on Thursdays I do an online course. I'm sixty-eight, you know.
I never finished university. I decided to drop out at nineteen. I said, 'I'll have a gap year and go back.' That was 1975. My gap year lasted forty years. My wife says it was the longest gap year in history.
Now my teacher says I speak like a Mexican grandmother. 'Hola, mi amor, eat something!' I think it's a compliment. Would you like a cup of tea? Or, how do you say, un té?

Open day and the squirrel
Welcome to our open day! My name is Lily, and I'm an undergraduate in my third year. Please stay together, and please watch your sandwiches. We have a very clever squirrel.
This is the library. It's open until midnight. Next year I'm doing my year abroad in Spain, so I'll learn Spanish and eat a lot of tapas. Yes, sir, you have a question? Is there a cheap café? Of course. It's just here.
After that, I want to do a master's degree. Oh no! Sir, your sandwich! The squirrel has it! Stop! Well, that's the campus. No, please don't try to catch him. He's faster than the university football team.
