Six a.m. phone call
Hi Jess, it's Ali. Sorry to call so early. I'm afraid I can't come in today. I feel really sick, and I was up all night.
I know I'm on the morning shift, and it's a busy day. I've already asked Tom, and he can cover for me until two. Is that OK with you? He knows the new orders system, so it should be fine.
I'm going to stay in bed and drink lots of water. I hope I'll be back tomorrow, but I'll let you know tonight. If I'm still ill tomorrow, I'll go to the doctor. Again, I'm so sorry. Thanks for understanding.

Never eat petrol station sushi
Hey Tom, are you awake? I need a big favour. I think I've got food poisoning. Never eat sushi from a petrol station!
My stomach hurts so much, and I can't stand up for long. The doctor on the phone said I need to rest for two days. No work, no screens, just water and toast.
Can we swap shifts? You take my Thursday morning, and I take your Saturday. I know Saturdays are busy, but I promise I'll do it. I'll buy you coffee for a week. Two weeks, if you also take my Sunday! Please say yes!

Ece can't come in
Good morning, it's Mr Yilmaz, Ece's dad. Sorry to call so early. Ece can't come to school today. She's sick. She had a stomach ache all night, and she didn't eat any breakfast.
The doctor says she needs to rest and drink a lot of water. No sport, no screens, and definitely no cheese. She's already very bored. She says she's going to learn all her spelling words in bed.
She'll be back on Thursday, I hope. Can you please tell Mrs Palmer that Ece wants to do the spelling test when she's back? Thank you very much. I'll call again on Wednesday evening. Bye!

Saturday swap
Hi Ola, it's Mehmet. Sorry to call on your day off. I've got a huge favour to ask. Can you cover my shift on Saturday? I know it's the busy one.
I'm not sick, I promise. It's my cousin's wedding in Bristol, and I'm the driver. Nobody else has a car, and my aunt says she'll cry if we're late. If you cover Saturday, I'll swap with you. I can do your Sunday and your early shift on Monday. You choose. I'll even bring you cake.
I'll be back at work on Tuesday morning, with a big piece of wedding cake in my bag. Please message me when you decide. Thanks, Ola. You're the best colleague in the world.
