Key phrase Does the room come with…?
Brothers, not a couple
Hello. I have a booking under Yilmaz. My booking reference is B, four, seven, nine, two. It's a twin room, please. Two beds. I'm here with my brother, and we're not a couple. The website said double, but I think that's a mistake.
Oh, thank you. And the room is en suite, yes? Good. My brother snores, so a bathroom with a door is important. Also, we chose free cancellation, but we won't cancel. We love Bath already.
Thanks. Room 214, lovely. Oh, one second. Hello? It's room 214 again. The key card opened the door, but there's a man in my bed. He's eating crisps. He says it's his room.

Hi. I have a reservation under Yilmaz. My confirmation number is B, four, seven, nine, two. I need a room with two beds, please. I'm here with my brother, and we're not a couple. The website said one bed, but that's a mistake.
Oh, thank you. And the room has a private bathroom, right? Great. My brother snores, so a bathroom with a door is important. Also, we chose free cancellation, but we won't cancel. We love Savannah already.
Thanks. Room 214, great. Oh, one second. Hello? It's room 214 again. The key card opened the door, but there's a man in my bed. He's eating chips. He says it's his room.
Everything is full
Mum, I've got bad news. I'm looking for a hotel in Cornwall for August, and there's no availability anywhere. It's high season! Every hotel is fully booked. I looked on six websites, and I'm getting a headache.
But wait. I found a little guesthouse near the beach. It's got four stars and a lovely review from a woman called Pat. She says the eggs are the best in England. Another review says, "The owner sings at breakfast." I'm sure that's a joke.
So I'm booking it now. It's seventy pounds a night, and the sea is two minutes away. You pay for the cream tea, and I pay for the room. Is that fair?

Mom, I have bad news. I'm trying to find a hotel in Maine for August, and there's no availability anywhere. It's peak season! Every hotel is fully booked. I looked on six websites, and I'm getting a headache.
But wait. I found a little bed and breakfast near the beach. It has four stars and a lovely review from a woman named Pat. She says the eggs are the best in America. Another review says, "The owner sings at breakfast." I'm sure that's a joke.
So I'm booking it now. It's a hundred dollars a night, and the ocean is two minutes away. You buy the lobster rolls, and I pay for the room. Is that fair?
Can I change my booking?
Hello, good morning. I'd like to change my booking, please. It's under Kaya. Two people, from Friday. Yes, that's right.
Sorry? For how many nights? Oh, it was two, but my sister is joining us, and she can't leave work until Sunday. So, three nights, please. Is breakfast included? Oh good. Does the room come with a kettle? Perfect. My sister says that's the best news this week.
One more thing. Could I ask for a room away from the lift? My husband sleeps badly, and he hears every ding. Thank you so much. And please don't tell him about the ding. He'll wait for it all night.

Room 12 is a cupboard
Selin, you won't believe my room. It's tiny! The bed takes up the whole space, and I have to climb over my suitcase to reach the toilet. My window overlooks the bins. Lovely.
The minibar has one bottle of water and a very sad chocolate bar. The toiletries are in baby bottles. I need glasses to read them. I never complain, as you know, but this was too much.
So I went to reception and said, very politely, "I'd like to complain, please." The lady smiled and gave me a new key. My new room is spacious, with a sofa and a sea view. I'm writing this from the bath.

One sock, no key
Excuse me, sorry. Are you the receptionist? I'm locked out of my room. I went to get some ice, and the door closed behind me. Now I'm standing at your reception desk in my pyjamas and one sock. It's two o'clock in the morning. I'm Mr Aksoy, room 31.
Oh, thank you. You've got a spare key? Brilliant. But can I ask you something else while I'm here? The walls are very thin. The people next door are watching a film, and I know every word. At the moment a man is saying, "I love you, Brenda," quite loudly.
Could I change rooms, please? Room 40? Lovely. Thanks very much. Is it far from Brenda? Only joking. Actually, I'm not.

Oh, thank you. You have a spare key? Perfect. But can I ask you something else while I'm here? The walls are very thin. The people next door are watching a movie, and I know every word. Right now a man is saying, "I love you, Brenda," pretty loudly.
Could I switch rooms, please? Room 40? Great. Thanks so much. Is it far from Brenda? Just kidding. Actually, I'm not.
