The best tip in York
Excuse me, is this tourist information? Great. We're in York for two days, and we have no plan. My wife wants a day trip, and I want a nap.
What's the one must-see place here? The Minster? Okay. And can we get there on foot? Ten minutes. Perfect. We hate buses. They hate us, too.
And do you know a hidden gem? Something with no queue and no tour groups? Sorry? The tea room next door? You eat there every day? Well, that's a very good sign. Thank you so much. We'll go now, and my wife will take a photo of you. You're our hero.

The seagull wins
Hi Ada! I'm at the castle ruins in Conwy. Look at my photo. The skyline is stunning, isn't it? There are mountains on one side and the sea on the other.
We had to climb about a hundred steps to get to the top tower. Dad stopped four times. He said he was looking at the view. He wasn't. He was breathing.
It's so peaceful up here. There's only the wind and a few birds. Dad is eating his sandwich on a wall, and he says it's the best lunch of his life. Oh no. A seagull just took it. Now Dad is shouting at the sky. I'll call you later.

No flash, please
Hi there. Is there an entry fee? Oh, it's free? Brilliant. And the exhibition upstairs, is that free too? Fourteen pounds each. Hmm. Okay, two tickets, please. My mum loves a good painting, and I love my mum.
Is there a cloakroom? We have two big rucksacks and a very wet umbrella. Lovely, thank you.
Excuse me, can I take photos here? Without flash, yes? Perfect. Mum, did you hear that? No flash. Mum? Oh no. A big white light just filled the room, and the guard is walking towards us. Sorry! She's my mother. She's very sorry, too.

We always get lost
Guess what? We always get lost, but this time it was good! We wanted to head to the famous castle, but the streets in the old town are like a maze. So we had to wander around for two hours, and every road went up.
The castle was a bit overrated, to be honest. Lots of people and a very long queue for the toilets. But then we found a tiny, lively square with music and grilled sardines. Nobody there was a tourist. It was the best part of the trip.
On the way back, we went into the gift shop. I bought a tile with a sardine on it. Why? I don't know. But Ben loves it. It's on our fridge now.

Guess what? We always get lost, but this time it was good! We wanted to head to the famous cathedral, but the streets in the French Quarter are like a maze. So we had to wander around for two hours, and every street looked the same.
The cathedral was a little overrated, honestly. Lots of people and a really long line for the restrooms. But then we found a tiny, lively square with music and fried shrimp. Nobody there was a tourist. It was the best part of the trip.
On the way back, we went into the gift shop. I bought a magnet with an alligator on it. Why? I don't know. But Ben loves it. It's on our fridge now.
