Hobiler

Name? Leyla. Talent? Oh, I've got five.

I can draw. I can paint, too, but only walls. I sing in the bath, and my neighbour sings back. I dance when nobody is looking. And I play the guitar a little.

Which one for the school show? Hmm. I think... the dancing. Please, nobody look!

In my family, everybody has a hobby. Dad likes to cook, but he can only make eggs. Mum bakes cakes every Sunday.

Gran knits scarves for the whole street. Grandad collects old coins, and he talks about them for hours.

And me? I take photos. Mostly of the cakes, before Dad eats them.

On Saturdays, my brother stays in his room. Gaming is his life. He never wants to go for a walk.

My favourite thing is hiking. I walk in the hills with my dog, and we eat sandwiches at the top. On Sundays, Dad likes to go fishing, and Mum does the gardening.

Dad catches nothing. Mum's flowers are beautiful. So Mum's hobby is better.

Hi, I'd like to join a club, please. In my free time, I'm into music. Well, I like singing.

Am I good at it? No. But I'm good at practising. I practise every night, and my flatmate hates it.

Does the club meet once a week? Tuesdays? Brilliant. I'm in. Please say there's no test.

On Saturday morning, I go cycling with Dad. He's slow, and he's got a bell. He rings it at every dog.

In the afternoon, it rains. I play the piano for an hour, then I do a jigsaw with Gran. It has two thousand pieces, and one is missing.

In the evening, my brother plays a video game. It's loud. I think the missing piece is in his room.

I want to take up a new hobby this year. Last year it was the guitar. The year before, juggling. My neighbours are still tired.

Today I try pottery. My bowl looks like a hat. The teacher says, "Lovely hat!"

Next week, I'm going to learn to sew. Gran says she'll teach me. My plan is a hat. Maybe two hats.
