Eight years old, no brakes
Hi love, it's me. Don't panic, Arda is fine. He took his bike to the park and had a crash on the path. He was going far too fast, of course.
He was wearing his helmet, thank goodness. He's got a scratch on his hand and a big bump on his head. Tomorrow he'll have a bruise on his knee as well, a purple one, I think.
I've put a plaster on the scratch and now he wants a medal. He keeps asking if he can ride again tomorrow. I said, "Yes, but the brakes are staying on this time." Can you pick up some ice cream on your way home? It's for his head, apparently.

Hey honey, it's me. Don't freak out, Arda is fine. He took his bike to the park and had a crash on the trail. He was going way too fast, of course.
He had his helmet on, thank God. He's got a scratch on his hand and a huge bump on his head. By tomorrow he'll have a bruise on his knee too, a purple one, I bet.
I put a Band-Aid on the scratch and now he wants a medal. He keeps asking if he can ride again tomorrow. I told him, "Sure, but the brakes are staying on this time." Can you grab some ice cream on your way home? It's for his head, he says.
Ice on Mill Street
Hiya Zeynep, bad news. This morning I slipped on the ice outside the flat. My feet went one way and I went the other. I twisted my ankle, and I think I sprained it, because it's now the size of an orange.
A man helped me up and gave me his scarf. Now I'm home, with a bag of frozen peas on my foot. I haven't got an ice pack, only peas. It hurts when I stand up, so I'm staying on the sofa all day.
Could you do the shopping tonight? We need milk, bread and more peas. Oh, and please don't laugh. A woman at the bus stop saw me fall and she laughed for a full minute.

Eleven minutes in the waiting room
Mum, don't worry, I'm at A&E with Callum. We were playing football and I fell on the pitch. I cut my chin and I hurt my ankle.
The doctor says I need six stitches in my chin, and my ankle is broken. I've got a plaster cast up to my knee, and I have to use crutches for six weeks. That's how long it takes to heal, he said. The crutches are orange. Of course they're orange.
The nurse says the scar will be small. Callum says it makes me look tough. Please bring my charger and some clean trousers, because mine are a mess. And tell Dad it was not the new boots' fault. It was a little bit the new boots' fault.

Three hours up a hill
We started walking three hours ago and my feet are dying. I've got a blister on each heel. New boots, big mistake.
Then Ben shouted, "Watch out!" but I was looking at my phone and I didn't see the rock. Ben says I always trip over things, even on flat ground. He's right. I'm very good at it.
Nobody was injured, only my pride. But when I saw my red, wet heel, I felt like I was going to pass out. Ben laughed, gave me a plaster and half a cheese sandwich. Now we're at the top and the view is amazing. Please don't look at my feet.

Get off the ladder, Dad
Dad, are you on the ladder again? Come down, please. You'll get hurt, and Mum can't carry you to the car.
She told me you banged your head on the new shelf yesterday. A big bang, she said, and some very bad words. Is it okay now? Does it ache? And what about your back? It always aches when you paint the ceiling, and you're sixty-eight, Dad.
No, I can't come and help, I'm in Leeds! But I'm sending a man called Steve. He's tall, he's strong and he's already on his way. Don't argue. Just get down and put the kettle on. And please wear a helmet. The old bike one is in the garage.
