Where is the sheep?
Ben, my English is getting better, I promise. My grammar is good, and my vocabulary is big. I use my dictionary app every day. I'm not a beginner any more. Last month I even read a whole book.
But my pronunciation is a disaster. Yesterday I was in Dover, and I asked a man, 'Excuse me, where is the sheep?' He said, 'Which one? There are two hundred in that field.'
I wanted the ship, for the ferry! Everybody laughed. Now I practise every morning. Ship. Sheep. Ship. Sheep. My flatmate says I sound like a very confused farmer. Cheers, mate.

Peaky English
Hi, Tom? I'm Lucia. This is my first language exchange, so I'm excited. I want to speak with a real native speaker. I learned English from TV, with subtitles. Hmm, you look surprised.
My favourite series is Peaky Blinders, so now I know a lot of slang. Listen: 'Oi, you cheeky git, shut your gob!' Is that good English? You're laughing. It's not good?
Okay. So I can't say that in the office. What do people say in the office? 'Cheers, mate'? 'Lovely'? I'll write it down. Tom, you teach me polite English, and I teach you Spanish. Deal?

Best man, robot voice
Right, Josh, listen. I'm best man at Dom's wedding on Saturday, and my speech is in English. I read it out loud twenty times this morning.
Josh says, 'You sound like a robot. And you mumble when you're nervous.' Thanks! Okay, again, slowly. 'Dom is the ugliest... sorry, the luckiest man in Manchester.' I always get it wrong in the same place. Ugliest, luckiest. Ugliest, luckiest!
Josh is laughing so much he can't breathe. He says I should keep the mistake. 'Nobody forgets a best man who gets the joke wrong.' Oh no. Ugliest. Luckiest. I need a tea.

Nene says hello
Hello, Kelly? It's Mrs Aydın from your Tuesday lesson. I'm sixty-two, and I'm learning English for my grandson in Canada. He's three. He says 'Nene, hello!' and I say nothing. Nothing!
Every day I come across a new word. Today it was 'awkward'. Like our silent phone calls! Now I can say it. 'Hello, my darling, how was nursery?' Last week I couldn't. I'm starting to get the hang of it, I think.
Do you think so? Please say yes. Thank you, Kelly. 'Keep it up.' I like this phrase. I'll say it to my grandson when he eats his carrots. See you on Tuesday. Bye bye.

Red lorry, yellow lorry
Hello. I'd like to join an English course, please. Level? Advanced, I think. I'm almost fluent. I speak three foreign languages: Turkish, Dutch and a bit of Polish. My teacher at home says my grammar is perfect.
A test? Sure. A tongue twister? Okay. 'Red lorry, yellow lorry.' Red lolly, yellow rolly... Sorry. Red lorry, yellow... Everybody in the queue is watching me. I need some water.
So, what's my level? Intermediate? Oh, thank you. That's kind. Is there a class on Tuesdays? And, er, is the tongue twister part of every lesson? Because I think I'll need a lot of water.

A test? Sure. A tongue twister? Okay. 'She sells seashells by the seashore.' She sees... she shells... Sorry. She sells... Everybody in line is watching me. I need some water.
So, what's my level? Intermediate? Oh, thank you. That's kind. Is there a class on Tuesdays? And, um, is the tongue twister part of every lesson? Because I think I'll need a lot of water.
