隐私政策
This policy explains what personal data Cuenook collects, why we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it and the rights you have. It applies to the Cuenook website and app.

Who is responsible for your data
Vela Solutions Ltd (company number 17163051, registered office Flat 17 Verum House, 19 New Street, Basingstoke, RG21 7BT, England) runs Cuenook and is the controller of your personal data under UK data protection law, the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. For any privacy question or request, write to [email protected].
What we collect
Account details: your email address, your name, a securely hashed password (or your Google account ID if you sign in with Google), your language, and when you signed up and last signed in.
Learning data: your English level, explanation language, goals and preferences, your practices and scripts, the texts you write or ask Nook to write, the words you save, and your progress.
Recordings: the audio and video takes you choose to record.
Purchases: what you bought, the credits added and used, and your plan. You enter card details on Stripe's page, and they never reach us.
Messages: what you send us through the contact form or by email.
Technical data: your IP address, browser type and the times of your requests, which we use for security, to limit abuse and to fix problems.
How and why we use it
To provide Cuenook under our contract with you: running your account, saving your practices and recordings, producing the AI texts and voices you ask for, and handling payments and credits.
For our legitimate interests: keeping Cuenook secure, preventing fraud and abuse, answering your messages, and finding and fixing problems so we can improve the service.
To meet legal obligations, such as keeping payment records for tax and accounting.
To send service emails, such as account activation, password and recording notices. We don't send marketing emails unless you've agreed to them. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't use your recordings or texts to train AI models.
AI providers
When you ask Nook to write a text, the topic and settings you give are sent to an AI provider (OpenAI or Anthropic) to produce it. When you buy an AI voice for one of your texts, that text is sent to ElevenLabs to make the audio. Recordings of your own voice are not sent to AI providers.
Please don't include sensitive personal information, such as health or financial details, in topics or texts.
Recordings, microphone and camera
Cuenook asks your browser for your microphone, and for your camera in video practice, only when you record or test a device. You can withdraw access at any time in your browser's site settings.
Recordings are stored with Cloudflare R2 in the European Union. Videos are kept for a limited time that depends on your plan, as shown in the app, and we email you before they're deleted. Audio recordings are kept until you delete them or your account.
Who we share data with
We use trusted service providers who process data on our behalf: DigitalOcean (hosting), Cloudflare (storage and email routing), Resend (sending emails), Stripe (payments), Google (sign-in, if you use it), OpenAI, Anthropic and ElevenLabs (AI texts and voices), and Sentry (error reports, stored in the EU). They may only use your data to provide their service to us.
If you accept advertising cookies, Meta receives the pages you visit on cuenook.com, your browser details and its own cookie identifiers, to measure our ads. Meta is a separate controller for what it does with this data, under its own privacy policy (facebook.com/privacy/policy).
We may also share data if the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or with a buyer if Cuenook's business is sold, in which case this policy continues to apply. We never sell your personal data.
International transfers
Some providers process data outside the UK, for example in the European Union or the United States. When they do, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or on safeguards approved under UK law, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep data
We keep your account and learning data while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your account details, learning data and recordings straight away; copies in backups are removed in the normal backup cycle.
Payment records are kept for six years after the end of the tax year they relate to, as UK tax law requires, and are no longer linked to a deleted account. Contact messages are kept for up to 12 months, topics Nook declined to write about for 90 days (so we can spot misuse), and technical logs and error reports for up to 90 days.
Welcome credits are given once per email address. To stop them being claimed again, we keep a one-way fingerprint (hash) of the address even after an account is deleted. We don't keep the address itself, and we use the fingerprint only to check whether an address has already had them.
Your rights
You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive a copy of the data you gave us in a portable format. You can change most details in the app and delete your account in Settings.
To use your rights, write to [email protected]; we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), though we'd like the chance to help first.
Cookies and storage on your device
Cuenook needs a secure cookie that keeps you signed in, and your browser's storage for things like your language, preferences, drafts and recent practices. These are needed for Cuenook to work, so they don't ask for your consent.
With your consent only, we also use Meta's pixel (Meta Platforms Ireland) to measure our ads: it tells us whether a visit came from one of our ads on Facebook or Instagram, and Meta sets its own cookies for this. We ask the first time you visit cuenook.com, and nothing loads unless you choose Accept. Cuenook works the same if you choose Reject. You can change your answer at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of any public page.
Clearing this site's data in your browser removes what is stored on your device; it doesn't delete your account.
Security
We protect your data with encrypted connections, hashed passwords, access controls and providers with strong security. No system is completely secure, so keep your password private and tell us straight away if you think your account has been misused.
Age
Cuenook is for adults aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger; if you believe we have, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when the way we handle data changes, and change the date at the top. If a change matters, we'll also tell you by email or in the app.
