Mom, come look at my first pay stub. I make three thousand dollars a month, right? But it says twenty-four hundred. Is this a pay cut? Did I do something wrong?

No, honey, that's tax. And this line is your retirement plan. It's money for when you're old. You can't touch it until you're sixty-five. Sixty-five? I'll be ancient!

And where's my bonus? Jo got a bonus at Christmas. Mom laughs and says, 'That's for people who don't eat all the cookies in the break room.' Oh. She saw that. Welcome to adult life, honey. Go make some coffee.

Guess what, Jo? I got the job at Tony's Pizza! It's temporary for three months. After that it can be permanent, if I'm good.

First there's a probation period. That's the first four weeks. The hourly rate is fourteen dollars, and I can't burn more than two pizzas a day. I already burned one. It was a very small one, but still.

Tony says if I burn three, I have to eat them all. So now I'm on a diet. A very black, very crunchy diet. Come by on Friday, dude. I'll make you a good one. Probably.

You've got eight days. That's fine. But, Nina, last Friday you were out sick. Do you have a doctor's note? And I saw a photo on Instagram. You were at the beach!

Okay, mirror time. 'Mr. Collins, I have something to say. I'd like to resign. Here is my letter. I put in my notice today, and I'll give you two weeks' notice. No, don't cry, Mr. Collins.' Good. Practice is done.

On Monday I go to his office with my letter. But he speaks first. 'Leila, I'm sorry. The company is closing this branch. Everybody gets a layoff package.' I stand there with my letter in my hand.

He gives me three months' pay and a box of donuts. So now I'm leaving, and the company pays me for it. Best resignation ever. I still don't know why I practiced that crying part.

Grandpa, guess what? I got a promotion! I'm assistant manager at the grocery store now. 'Well done, kiddo. And the video games? Can you make a living from those?'

Not yet, Grandpa. For two years my streaming is unpaid. It's a hobby. But my viewers are growing. Forty people watched last night. 'Forty? That's more than my bowling league.'
